O'Grady was born in Wheaton, Illinois and graduated from Wheaton North High School in 1981. She is the daughter Jan O'Grady (a financial planner) and Jim O'Grady. Her parents raised her within Wheaton (Illinois) where she was a graduate of Wheaton's North High School. She appeared as a model in commercials for a time before moving out in Los Angeles.
